Religions In India

India has Unity in diversity. The diversity is also visible in the religions, the major religions of India are Hinduism, Bhuddhism, Jainism, Christianity, Sikhism and Islam. In the history of the India, Religion is the very important part of the country’s culture. According to ‘Constituions of India’ everyone has right to choose the religion as they want to accept. Every Religion’s message is to spread love to each other. There are large number of temples, churches, gurudwaras, mosques, monasteries in India that spread spirituality and most of all has unity in diversity.

Hinduism: Hinduism is the oldest religion and Major part of India. The Hindus are about 80% of Indians and is the most ancient religion in the world. Hindus are supposed to be developed about 5000 years ago. The most pilgrimages of Hindus are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunortri which are also called char-dham and Mathura, Vrindavan, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Rameshwaram . The holy Book of Hinduism is ‘Bhagwat Geeta’ and ‘Ramayan’.

Jainism:  The population of Jains is less than one percent which is 0.5% of the Indian people. The majority of Jains in Rajasthan and Gujrat state. Jains are believe in ‘Ahimsa’ which means non-voilence, Right-Believe, Right-knowledge and Right-Conduct. The 24th and last Tirthankar of jains was ‘Lord Mahaveera’.

Buddhism:  the population of buddhas are almost 0.7% of Indian people. The founder of Buddhism is Gautam Buddha. Buddhas are divided in two parts Mahayana and Hinayana.Buddhism is also spread throughout Tibet, Sri-Lanka, Korea, Japan and China.

Sikhism: Sikhs are about two percent of India’s population. They believe in path of disciplineship. It is started by Guru Nanak in the 15th centuary in Punjab. Shikhs are disciple of their ten Gurus, starting with Guru Nanak and ending with Guru Gobind Singh. Sikhism is also spread throughtout Malaysia, Singapore and Canada.

Islam: The followers of Islam are called Muslims. They are about 12 percent of India’s population. Allah is the God of Muslims. The holy book of Islam is ‘Quran’.

Christianity: This religion is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. The population of Christians is about two percent of the India’s population. The holy book of Christians is ‘Bible’.
