Abhaneri Village

Abhaneri is a small village in the Dausa district of state Rajasthan. The village was established by king Raja Chand of Gurjar Kingdom in 9th century. The place is 95 km away from  Jaipur towards Jaipur- Agra highway.

The place was believed to be named as “Abha Nagri” which means “city of brightness”. But due to mispronunciation the place is called as Abhaneri.

The place is connected by bus, train. You can also reach there by hiring a private car and driver. The nearest railway station is Bandikui. From there ,Abhaneri is at a distance of 6 km. Abhaneri is also connected by rail through Dausa railway station .

The place is famous for early medival monuments like Chand Baori and Harshat Mata Temple.The village is in ruins now, although is the major tourist attraction point.

Chand Baori is one of the largest and deepest stepwell in India. The stepwell was designed as a water reservoir in scorched times. The stepwells had social, cultural and religious significance. There are different ways to reach the water. Stepwells are considered as a place for social gatherings religious ceremonies. The woman came and collect water from this stepwell.

Another attraction point is Harshat Mata Temple . This temple is goddess of happiness who spreads joy to the entire village.

This Chand Baori stepwell is located in front of Harshat Mata Temple. There are various rituals associated with this temple which everyone has to follow. One of these rituals is to wash the hands and feet at this well before entering the temple.

Abhaneri is also famous for dances like Ghoomar, Kalbalei.
